Muerta Dota 2 Guide
Muerta Dota 2 is a ranged intelligence hero in Dota 2. Though it’s been more than one year since her release, she still remains the newest addition to the hero pool.
Muerta is a very interesting hero with interesting abilities and playstyle. She is also one of the very few intelligence Dota 2 heroes that can scale really well and deal good damage even during the late game.

Muerta’s Abilities
Deadshot: Fire a bullet from your gun that deals damage to the enemy target and ricochets. If the bullet hits the enemy hero after it bounces, it deals damage and applies the fear debuff. You can also bounce off this ability from a tree.
It is a really strong and annoying spell to lane against; it can be used to last hit and harass the opponents.
The Calling: Muerta calls upon 4 ghosts that move in a circle in the targeted area. Enemies within the area will have their movement speed and attack speed reduced. Any enemy that comes into contact with any of the ghosts will be silenced.
If an enemy hero dies inside this ability, the duration of the skill will be refreshed, and another ghost will be added.
Gunslinger: A passive ability that will give you a percentage-based chance to shoot a second bullet at the target.
Pierce the Veil (ultimate): Muerta goes into ethereal form, becoming immune to physical damage. While in this form, all your attacks deal magic damage, and you also gain bonus attack damage and phased movement.
Muerta’s Strengths and Weaknesses
Let’s quickly take a look at a couple of the strengths and weaknesses of Muerta and follow up with a few item recommendations.
Strengths
Muerta is generally strong against melee heroes. Not only is she a ranged-attack hero, but she can also use her first ability to increase the gap between her and her enemies if needed.
Heroes that rely completely on physical damage, like Troll, Slark, and Sven, will prove to be helpless when Muerta uses her ultimate. You can also completely negate these three heroes’ ultimates just by activating Pierce the Veil.
Since your ultimate deals magic damage, you prove to be strong against heroes that use ethereal form as an escape, like Necrophos‘ Ghost Shroud or heroes with Ghost Sceptre.
Weaknesses
Watch out for heroes that heal high magic damage, like Lina, Zeus, Skywrath, etc. They will deal heavy damage to you while you’re in your ultimate form.
Though heroes like Anti-Mage and Lifestealer heavily rely on dealing physical damage, their abilities that grant them magic resistance and spell immunity, respectively, will prove to be a great counter to Muerta.
Items like BKB, Pipe of Insight, Eternal Shroud, Glimmer Cape and Mageslayer are all great counters for Muerta’s magic damage.
Conclusion
Her first ability is a skill shot and I recommend you practice it in the demo lobby and get a hang of it. It’s also a great ability for cancelling teleports and channelling spells.
You can play this hero both in the middle and in the safe lane. As mentioned before, she is one of the very few intelligence heroes that scale well throughout the game and will deal massive damage even during the late game.
Buying Aghanim’s Scepter on this hero will unlock a new ability called the Parting Shot that applies a strong dispel to the enemy. It is a late-game luxury item.
Maelstrom, Hurricane Pike, and BKB are core items for this hero. For the best item build, I recommend you use the in-game guide by Torte de Lini.
